Dan Rather – Mistake or Cover-up?
CBS News reporter Dan Rather was among the first few people who viewed the original Zapruder film on the night of the assassination.
That night, Rather and CBS lost a bidding war when LIFE Magazine paid Abraham Zapruder $150,000 for his famous 26-second film.
As a consolation, Rather went on CBS news three days later and became the first person to report what the Zapruder film shows.
Remarkably, Dan Rather told America that President Kennedy’s head moved “ forward with considerable violence” as a result of the fatal head shot.
Because the Zapruder film would not be shown to the American public until 1975, Rather’s interpretation of the President’s murder would help the public accept Oswald as JFK’s lone assassin.
The Zapruder film does not support Rather’s claim about the President’s physical reaction to the tragic head shot.
