Re-Open JFK Case

How You Can Help Correct the Historical Record of the Assassination of President Kennedy

The Assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963 is still regarded by approximately 65% of the population as America’s ultimate unsolved cold case.

JFK assassination researcher Larry Schnapf is leading a groundswell movement to compel release of all classified files and have Congress convene a new inquiry into the events of 11/22/63.

America’s consistent disbelief in the Warren Commission’s conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in killing JFK is once again rekindling interest in a fresh, impartial look into the events pertaining to that dark day in Dallas.

Released records from the Assassination Records Review Board hearings in the mid 90’s reveal many disturbing examples of key evidence dismissed, ignored, altered or suppressed by the Warren Commission in order to frame Lee Oswald as the ‘lone’ assassin.

When we add the collective work by independent researchers over the years, as well as modern technologies being applied to the existing physical evidence that continue to erode the findings of the Warren Report, there is an obvious need for an impartial new investigation into the events of 11/22/63.

One researcher in particular, Larry Schnapf, is leading a two-pronged effort to get at the truth. The New York lawyer, former chair of the legal committee for the Citizens Against Political Assassinations, is leading a team of volunteer lawyers to:

  1. Legally compel President Joe Biden to release all remaining classified documents in the National Archives per the JFK Assassination Records Act of 1992, a law passed by congress.

Although the official government position is that President Kennedy was gunned down by a lone nut, Presidents continue to withhold documents deemed too sensitive to national security interests.

  1. Convince the appropriate Congressional or Senate committee to conduct a new formal inquiry into the murder of America’s 35th President.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS

A picture containing text Description automatically generatedIf those seem like daunting tasks, they are, which is why Schnapf is trying to generate a groundswell of action by making sure every congressperson and Senator hear from constituents on this matter.

“We want to create enough noise to get the attention of Congress to hold hearings and have representatives of the security agencies come before Congress to explain to the American people why they are still delaying documents that are 58 years old,” Schnapf told this researcher for the book JFK Case NOT Closed.

This is where you come in. Schnapf is asking us to participate in a campaign to accomplish both objectives. To help you make a difference, the following link enables you to look up your Congressional or Senate representative to obtain their office phone number or e-mail address – https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative. Once on the site, simply enter your zip code.

A written call-to-action by e-mail or letter would be most powerful. To that end, Larry Schnapf provides here a form letter you are free to use to deliver the right message to your representatives.

As Chairperson of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, Carolyn Maloney has the power to make intelligence agencies explain why thousands of JFK assassination files still remain classified and sealed.

In the sample form letter I have provided here with Schnapf’s permission, in addition to a letter to your representative where you reside, it would be helpful to write directly to Carolyn Maloney, Chairperson of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, the committee that could call on the intelligence agencies to account for their actions. You can write as follows:

The Hon. Carolyn Maloney
Chairperson
House Committee on Oversight and Reform
Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC  20515

On the Senate side, as of this date, January 1, 2022, in addition to writing to your Senator, I encourage you to send the form letter to Senators Gary Peters and Rob Portman, co-chairs, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, as follows:

The Hon. Gary Peters and Rob Portman
Co-Chairs
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee
Dirksen Office Senate Building
U.S. Senate
Washington, DC 20510

Most importantly, it would be highly beneficial to also write to your local House and Senate representatives at the same time, asking them to pass along your message to the respective committee chairpersons.

Here is the form letter you can use. Feel free to personalize it to your local representatives in a manner as you see fit. It could be as simple as commenting on a recent newsworthy event in your state that involved him or her:

Dear (Name of Representative or Senator):

Re: Request for Oversight Hearing

On October 22nd, President Biden postponed the release of the remaining JFK Assassination Records for another 14 months. The President stated he was postponing the disclosure of these records because certain agencies claimed that release of 58 year old records would somehow pose a risk to national security. President Biden’s memo followed a six-month postponement by President Trump in October 2017 and a 3.5 year postponement in April 2018.

Under the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Act of 1992 (the “JFK Act”), all records identified as JFK assassination records were supposed to be disclosed by October 26, 2017 unless the release of a particular record would pose an “identifiable harm” to national security that was of such gravity that it outweighed the strong public interest in the record. Congress said that only in the “rarest cases is there any legitimate need for continued protection of such records.” If that was true in 1992, it is certainly even more so now.

For any record proposed to be postponed, the JFK Act provides that the American people are to be provided with an unclassified explanation of the “identifiable harm” posed by the record and how that harm outweighs the public interest in the document. Neither the Biden memo nor President Trump’s two memos complied with this statutory mandate.

Since it is now abundantly clear that the Executive Branch is either unable or unwilling to comply with the JFK Act, I ask that you contact Carolyn Maloney, chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and Senators Gary Peters and Rob Portman, co-chairs of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and request that the committee hold an oversight hearing where the Executive Branch agencies would be forced to explain to the American people why they have refused to comply with the JFK Act.

The failure to fully comply with the JFK Act is emblematic of the national crisis of declassification. Releasing the remaining JFK assassination records would be a big step towards restoring the trust of the American people in the candor of the country’s institutions.

Kindest Regards,

Every letter matters and every contact helps to make a difference. This is exactly what happened after the 1991 Oliver Stone movie JFK. A public outcry resulted in congress creating the JFK Assassination Records Act of 1992, making it the law to release all classified files by October 26, 2017.

For reasons that need to be uncovered, each President up to Biden, despite his release of approximately 10% of the sealed documents on December 15, 2021, has defied the law by allowing intelligence agencies to decide what documents should remain withheld from the public.

The will of the people has prevailed in the past and needs to prevail again. When the history books finally reflect the truth about the assassination of President Kennedy, you will have helped to overturn nearly 60 years of lies and deception about one of the most consequential events in modern times.
